CULT SPORTSWEAR LABEL JET SET DIVES INTO ITS ARCHIVES FOR SS20

The luxury brand looks back through its 50 year history for the new season

Though Virgil Abloh may have declared the death of streetwear at the end of 2019, all signs point to this not quite being the case. Each morning, all around the world, people are pulling on their favourite sweatpants and track tops, and readying themselves for another day in isolation: contrary to what the Off-White founder predicted, street and loungewear has become more integral to our wardrobes than ever before.

One label with vast experience is JET SET. Founded in St. Moritz in 1969, the pioneering label has been turning out innovative, fashion-led leisurewear collections for almost 50 years, and, in the time since it was founded, has become known for its bold approach to colour and print.

This season, for SS20, JET SET’s collection is made up of lightweight, gender-neutral nylon track tops and matching trousers, coach jackets, jumpsuits, and a selection of retro-inspired beach and gym wear (for the moment we’re finally allowed back there), much of which is emblazoned with the label’s signature star monogram and graphic prints. Elsewhere, animal-motif sweatshirts, parachute pants, and utilitarian bombers are crafted from pure silk, with many pieces crafted from recycled and repurposed materials as the brand powers towards a more sustainable future.

In addition to this, creative director Michael Michalsky has revived JET SET’s denim diffusion line Blue System for a new generation of fashion fans. Garnering a cult following the first time around, the revived edit is made up of oversized denim jackets, loose, 90s-style jeans, and a few pairs of short shorts to boot. As seen in the label’s SS20 campaign (which FYI is featured in the gallery above) the capsule is complemented by a series of pieces bearing bold 70s’ pinball machine prints.
